Rooted in Christ is the Student Ministry at St John Newland. We love our Lord Jesus Christ and seek to see His name glorified on our university campus, in Hull, and in all the World. Our name comes from the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians where he writes:
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
As a group we are committed to 3 goals:
- Reaching Out – Having ourselves received Jesus as Lord we are convicted that the world’s only hope is to accept him as Lord and Saviour. Because of
this we are convicted of the need to reach out to the world with the gospel.
- Building Up – Our desire as brothers and sisters in Christ is to live the whole of our lives in him, to be rooted and built up in him, and strengthened in the faith as the Apostle Paul exhorts us. To this end we meet throughout the week to study God’s Word and pray, trusting God that he will transform us more and more into the image of his Son.
- Sending Out – Paul does not settle for head knowledge! He longs to see us ‘overflowing with thankfulness’, and to see hearts transformed and warmed by God’s amazing love. As a group we are committed not only seeing new believers joining us but also to sending students out into the world ‘overflowing with thankfulness’ and ready to Christ’s work wherever they are.
The Rooted in Christ Team
Rooted in Christ aims to be an every-member ministry where everyone lovingly encourages, corrects, and prays for each other. But we also recognise the importance of leadership. Our team is lead by Sam Patterson and Jess Hayward.
